Over 263,000 registered Southeast Florida registered OpenTable diners voted in the  Diners’ Choice Awards between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012.

All restaurants with a minimum number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of qualifying reviews as a special feature.

The free event will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. when a portion of Fort Lauderdale’s world famous A1A will be transformed into an entertainment mecca, featuring music, live performances, and activities for the entire family.

Two stages will feature live bands that will perform classic oldies and rock ‘n’ roll hits, including such acts as Swahili, Across the Universe, Noreena Downey, Landsharks and headliners from Orlando, the Jake and Elwood Blues Review.

Children and adults will enjoy an array of activities including a beach water slide, face painting, hula-hoop, limbo and Twister contests, a water balloon toss and a sand castle building competition.

The event will also feature a classic car show with vintage automobiles lining up along A1A, giving beach-goers an up close look at more than 50 hot rods, ragtops and muscle cars. An art show will include displays from several Fort Lauderdale artists including up and coming chalk artists.

To top off the evening, at 8:30 p.m. event-goers will be treated to a special screening of “American Grafitti,” presented by the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. The movie will be shown from 8:30 to 10 p.m. on a larger-than-life screen set in the sand off the corner of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard.

A super moon will rise on the eastern horizon on Saturday, so called because it will be a full moon and, at about the same time, make its closest approach to Earth in 2012 – a mere 221,802 miles away.

Weather permitting, it will appear about 16 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than usual, said Susan Barnett, director of the Buehler Planetarium in Davie. “It will look big and beautiful all night long,” she said.

In specific astronomical times, the moon will peek over the horizon at 7:42 p.m., become a full moon at 11:35 p.m. and a super moon 25 minutes later. It’s close approach shouldn’t cause any problems with high tides, said Eric Vandernoot, head of the Astronomical Observatory at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Looking for a romantic place to view the celestial event? Check out outdoor cafes overlooking the beach, head out along fishing piers or park along open spaces on Alligator Alley and U.S. 27.

Astronomers take a more practical view and caution that open areas don’t give a good perspective on how big the moon is.

“The good news is,” Barnett said, “wherever you are, you can see it.”
